Speaker Johnson Suggests Zelensky May Have To Resign After Trump Meeting

House Speaker Mike Johnson suggested Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy might need to resign after a heated meeting with Donald Trump and JD Vance. Zelenskyy’s demand for U.S. security guarantees in exchange for a mineral deal was seen as a refusal to negotiate peace.

“President Trump is trying to get these two parties to a point of peace,” Johnson said, adding Zelenskyy should return to talks “with gratitude, or someone else needs to lead the country.”

Trump criticized Zelenskyy for showing “disrespect” in the Oval Office, saying he could return “when he is ready for Peace.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham echoed Johnson, saying, “Most Americans… would not want Zelenskyy to be their business partner.” He added that Zelenskyy should apologize or Ukraine should “send us somebody new.”

Trump’s adviser Mike Waltz warned that if Zelenskyy’s motives don’t align with ending the war, the U.S. could reconsider its support. The U.S. has committed over $174 billion to Ukraine since the war began.
