Republicans are divided over passing a new funding extension. “But Democrats and Republicans can’t agree on anything because the left wants the resolution to include guarantees that Trump won’t go against Congress and spend less money than what’s authorized.” With a slim majority, House Speaker Mike Johnson relies on Democratic votes to pass bills.

Trump urged Republicans to pass a “clean” funding extension until the fiscal year’s end. This proposal could sway conservative lawmakers typically against continuing resolutions. “That’s what Republican leaders are hoping will be enough to change the minds of conservatives and other GOP lawmakers who normally are against continuing resolutions.”

A group of GOP members, including Rep. Ralph Norman, plans to meet with Trump at the White House. Norman, who usually opposes such measures, is optimistic about Trump’s plan to cut government waste. “It’s real important to keep his momentum going. It’s a new day with the DOGE cuts.”

Rep. Chip Roy supports the plan if spending stays at or below current levels. “I’m happy to support the president’s request to have a (continuing resolution) the next six months, provided that it’s clean.”

With Trump’s influence, Republicans may unite without needing Democratic support.
