Trump Threatens New Tariffs on Canadian Lumber and Dairy
(CNN) – Just a day after pausing tariffs on Canada, President Donald Trump threatened new ones on lumber and dairy, possibly as soon as Friday.
“Canada has been ripping us off for years on lumber and on dairy products,” Trump said, citing Canada’s 250% tariff on US dairy. “We’re going to charge the same thing.”
Canadian Trade Minister Mary Ng rejected the claim, calling the tariffs “completely unjustified.”
The sudden shift unsettled businesses, which had welcomed Thursday’s one-month tariff reprieve. Trump warned of future changes: “There’ll always be some modifications.”
