Gene Hackman and Wife Betsy Arakawa’s Causes of Death Confirmed

Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead in their New Mexico home on February 26. A concerned neighbor requested a welfare check, leading to the discovery.

Despite speculation of a carbon monoxide leak, police confirmed they died from separate causes at different times.

Dr. Heather Jarrell stated Hackman died from “hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, with Alzheimer’s disease as a significant contributory factor.”

Arakawa’s cause of death was “Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome,” with Dr. Jarrell confirming, “the manner of death is natural.”
