Avoid these

Do you feel nervous about visiting the gynecologist because “the thought of exposing yourself to your doctor feels totally uncomfortable”? You’re not alone. Many women feel the same way. It’s understandable—“there are few things more awkward than sitting in a gynecological exam chair, legs spread wide, while someone examines you.”

But these exams are important. They help detect and treat sexually transmitted diseases and cancers, like breast and cervical cancer, early. As awkward as it feels, “these exams are crucial.”

It helps to remember: your doctor isn’t judging you. They “see plenty of naked women every day—it’s just part of their job.” They’re not noticing “toned thighs, painted toenails, or whether or not you’ve shaved.”

When you start to feel self-conscious, remind yourself: “Your doctor isn’t worried about how you look — they’re just there to make sure you’re healthy.”

Pushing past the discomfort can protect your health. Regular exams could save your life.
