American Airlines Plane Caught Fire After Landing — What Happened to Passengers on Board

The quick thinking of an American Airlines flight crew ensured a safe landing with no lives lost after pilots diverted the aircraft upon noticing unusual engine activity.
On March 13, 2025, American Airlines Flight 1006, a Boeing 737-800, was forced to divert to Denver International Airport after the crew reported “engine vibrations.” According to the FAA, the plane landed safely around 5:15 p.m. However, “one of its engines caught fire while taxiing to the gate.” Passengers evacuated via emergency slides and jet bridges. All 172 passengers and six crew members escaped safely, but 12 people were treated for minor injuries. Videos shared on X showed “airport staff extinguishing flames” as smoke surrounded the plane.

American Airlines thanked its crew, Denver Airport staff, and first responders for their “quick and decisive action.” The airline arranged a replacement flight to Dallas-Fort Worth, and the FAA is investigating the incident.

This wasn’t the only recent diversion. On February 23, 2025, American Airlines Flight 292 from New York to New Delhi diverted to Rome after a bomb threat. Italian Air Force jets escorted the plane safely. “Safety and security are our top priorities,” American Airlines stated. All 199 passengers and 15 crew members landed safely. The threat was later deemed unfounded, and the plane was cleared after thorough inspections.
