White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt made history as the youngest person to ever hold the position. Since taking office in January, she’s quickly made headlines.
At her first press conference, Leavitt falsely claimed that “the US almost spent $50 million on condoms for Gaza.” However, Reuters found “no evidence to support” the statement.
This week, she stirred controversy again, responding to Raphaël Glucksmann, a member of the European Parliament, who called for the return of the Statue of Liberty. Leavitt fired back, saying, “My advice to that unnamed low-level French politician would be to remind them that it’s only because of the United States of America that the French are not speaking German right now.”
She added, “They should be very grateful to our great country.”
Leavitt’s remarks have sparked debate, with critics accusing her of inflaming diplomatic tensions.
