Doctors Said It Was Gallstones—But It Was Stage Four Cancer

Kanisha Collins, 24, was diagnosed with stage-four pancreatic cancer after doctors failed to test a tumour on her pancreas for five months. Initially told she had pancreatitis, Kanisha trusted doctors at Royal Chesterfield and Weston Park hospitals. Even after a second CT scan showed a blood clot and a persistent mass, doctors insisted it was benign.

“They wouldn’t test the mass… because they didn’t think somebody my age would have pancreatic cancer,” she told *MailOnline*. “Cancer should never be based on age.”
By the time lesions were found on her liver, it was too late. Now undergoing chemotherapy, she married her partner Mason on the same week treatment began. “I feel heartbroken,” she said. “I have a two-year-old daughter… and all that to look forward to.”

Her father, Dean, launched a GoFundMe campaign raising over £4,000 in one day. “It’s just to make lasting memories… and not worry about the financial side,” Kanisha said. Her dream is to take her daughter on a holiday.

Chesterfield Royal Hospital’s CEO said they take the case seriously and welcome a full review: “We are sorry to hear of Kanisha’s experience.”
