Twin toddlers drown after grandmother with Alzheimer’s leaves door open

Twin toddlers Locklyn and Loreli tragically drowned in their family’s backyard pool in Oklahoma City after slipping out of the house through an open door—possibly left ajar by their great-grandmother, who has Alzheimer’s. Their mother, Jenny Callazzo, discovered them unconscious. Despite emergency efforts, both 18-month-olds were pronounced dead.

Days earlier, Callazzo had posted a photo of the twins with the caption, “just want to play outside.” The pool, seen in aerial footage, was dark green and algae-filled.
Callazzo lives with her husband and elderly grandmother. Neighbors described the painful moment she sat distraught in the back of an EMS vehicle as responders tried to save her children.

Authorities have ruled out foul play. A GoFundMe page was created to help the family with funeral costs, thanking the community for its support.

Experts warn how fast and silent toddler drownings can be. “Toddlers don’t have the skills to help themselves out of water,” said Laura Gamino of OU Health. She urges families to install 4-foot-high fences with locked gates. “Drowning is silent,” she stressed. “That’s one of the scariest parts.”
