**Get Ready for the 2025 Strawberry Moon on June 11**
Sky watchers, take note! The Strawberry Moon—the sixth full moon of 2025—will light up the sky on **June 10 and 11**. Known for its “distinctive amber hues” and occasional rosy glow, it marks the **last full moon of spring or the first of summer**.
The name “Strawberry Moon” comes from the **Old Farmer’s Almanack**, referring to June’s strawberry harvest. Indigenous groups also used names like **“Hatching Moon”** and **“Blooming Moon”**, while Europeans called it the **“Rose Moon”** or **“Honey Moon”**.
To see it best, head out around **sunset on June 10**—about 8:00 p.m. in Los Angeles or 8:30 p.m. in New York. It peaks at **3:44 a.m. ET on June 11**. For some in Australia and the South Pacific, the moon will briefly **block the star Antares**, a rare treat.
For the clearest view, find a dark, elevated spot with a clear eastern horizon. This year’s moon is especially low in the sky due to a **“major lunar standstill,”** making it “the lowest full moon since 2006,” says EarthSky.
NASA advises: “Give your eyes time to adjust and look carefully.” Binoculars or a small telescope can enhance the experience.
