If World War 3 were to begin, no place would be entirely safe. Warfare today includes not only traditional combat but also cyberattacks, space weapons, and long-range missiles. Still, some countries are better positioned to stay out of direct conflict due to geography, neutrality, and low strategic value.
**Switzerland** is highly secure thanks to its Alpine location and centuries-old neutrality. It stayed out of both World Wars and is not part of NATO. “Nearly every household… is within reach of a fallout shelter.”
**New Zealand** is isolated, peaceful, and has no major enemies. It’s praised for food security, clean energy, and being nuclear-free. Experts even rank it among the best places to survive global collapse.
**Bhutan**, nestled in the Himalayas, avoids military alliances and focuses on “Gross National Happiness” over GDP. It has no history of aggression and maintains a peaceful stance despite its location near China and India.
**Iceland** has no military and ranks as the world’s most peaceful nation. Though a NATO member, its remote location reduces its risk.
**Costa Rica** disbanded its military in 1949 and invests in education and health. It plays a role in peace diplomacy and avoids offensive alliances.
While countries like Finland and Sweden recently joined NATO, raising their risk, others like Ireland, Singapore, Argentina, and Chile remain low-risk due to neutrality or remoteness.
