A tragic Air India crash killed 243 people, leaving only one survivor—40-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh from Leicester, England. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner was headed to London’s Gatwick but crashed shortly after takeoff. “I still don’t know how I survived,” Ramesh told reporters.
The plane broke apart mid-air. “I opened my seatbelt and ran. There were bodies all around me,” he said. Ramesh, thrown near an emergency exit, escaped with burns and multiple injuries. His brother, also onboard, is presumed dead. He recalled the aircraft felt “stuck,” then suddenly “went full speed and crashed into the building.”
Thai singer Ruangsak “James” Loychusak, who survived a 1998 Thai Airways crash, was shaken by a strange coincidence—both he and Ramesh sat in seat 11A. “When I saw the survivor sat in 11A, I got goosebumps,” he said.
A video showing Ramesh limping from the wreckage went viral, capturing a bystander helping him into an ambulance.
