The only survivor of the tragic Air India crash, 40-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, carried his brother Ajay’s coffin at the funeral in Gujarat. Vishwash, a British national from Leicester, was injured and limping but held up the casket, mourning his brother who died in the disaster along with 240 others. The brothers were on flight AI171, which crashed near Ahmedabad while heading to London Gatwick.
Vishwash escaped the burning wreckage but lost his brother, who was only one seat away. At the crash site, Vishwash told rescuers, “My family member is in there, my brother and he’s burning to death. I have to save him.” Emergency worker Satinder Singh Sandhu recalled, “He was very disoriented and shocked… He told the paramedics he wanted to go back to save his family.”
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner lost power shortly after takeoff, crashing into a residential area and a medical college dormitory. Investigators are examining whether the engines failed and if the emergency systems worked properly.
Aviation expert Amit Singh said, “The data will reveal everything,” referring to the black boxes recording pilot conversations and flight data. The pilots reportedly made a mayday call before the crash. Investigators are also reviewing CCTV footage, pilot training, and aircraft load to find the cause.
