A Disney Cruise turned into a rescue mission on June 29 when a young girl fell from Deck 4 of the Disney Dream cruise ship, which was returning from the Bahamas to Fort Lauderdale. Her father immediately jumped into the ocean after her.
The incident triggered an emergency alert—“Mr. M.O.B.” (man overboard)—broadcast through the ship’s intercom. Passengers watched in shock as the father kept his daughter afloat while the ship moved ahead.
“A girl fell overboard… her dad went in after her… Thankfully the DCL rescue team was on it immediately and both were saved,” shared passenger Kevin Furuta. Another, Dewayne Smith, added, “The Disney crew went into action asap… Both the little girl and dad were successfully rescued.”
Disney’s crew launched a yellow rescue boat within minutes. Witnesses say the father held his daughter above water for nearly 20 minutes before they were rescued. “It was so intense to watch,” said Janice Martin-Asuque.
Disney praised its staff: “We commend our crew members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions,” a spokesperson told *USA TODAY*. The ship’s modern overboard detection system helped ensure the pair’s swift rescue. The incident ended in cheers and relief from the ship’s 3,500 guests.
