Elon Musk and Donald Trump, once political allies, are now in a heated public feud. Their falling out began in early June with mutual accusations, and things have only escalated. Musk is now threatening to fund campaigns against Republican lawmakers and even form his own political party. Trump, in turn, is taking aim at Musk’s businesses and has suggested cutting Tesla’s subsidies and government contracts.
In a Fox News interview, Trump was asked whether he plans to deport Musk. His vague response—“We’ll have to take a look”—sparked concern, especially after he added, “We might have to put DOGE on Elon… He gets a lot of subsidies.” The phrase likely refers to financial retaliation, not literal deportation.
Musk, a naturalized U.S. citizen since 2002, responded on X: “So tempting to escalate this. So, so tempting. But I will refrain for now.” Legal experts say deporting Musk is nearly impossible unless he committed fraud on his citizenship application—something with no current evidence.
Despite Trump’s vague threats, Musk’s citizenship and status remain secure for now. However, the feud could still have serious political and business consequences if tensions keep rising.
