Just two weeks after celebrating her recovery from bone cancer, 13-year-old Jerilynn Brown tragically died in a house fire on July 4th in Independence, Missouri.

The fire broke out around 5:30 a.m. when smoldering fireworks debris ignited the back of the family’s farmhouse. Firefighters arrived to find flames pouring from the rear of the home and worked quickly to contain the blaze.

Once the fire was extinguished, crews found three people inside. Sadly, Jerilynn and one unnamed adult did not survive.

“She had just beaten cancer,” the article states, highlighting the heartbreak of her sudden loss.

The fire is believed to have started from leftover fireworks, underscoring the dangers of improperly discarded pyrotechnics.
