Three bodies have been recovered after a deadly mudslide near Lillooet, B.C., with one person still missing, according to RCMP. The slide struck on November 15, affecting Highway 99 (Duffey Lake Road).
B.C. Chief Coroner Lisa Lapointe confirmed that one body was found Wednesday and two more on Thursday. A woman’s body was recovered Monday, the first confirmed death from the landslide and flooding caused by last weekend’s extreme rainfall.
Despite continued efforts, the fourth missing person has not been found. “All avenues of search have been exhausted,” Lapointe said, though discussions continue on possible next steps.
Authorities are working to identify the victims and notify their families. “My heart goes out to the numerous families and communities that have endured tragic losses,” Lapointe added.
B.C. RCMP Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet noted that poor weather and unsafe conditions have complicated recovery efforts. The affected stretch of Highway 99 remains closed, with no reopening date announced.
