Teen with Down syndrome breaks down in tears after being named Homecoming Queen

Emma Wright, an 18-year-old with Down syndrome, was named East Forsyth High School’s homecoming queen. Among a group of contenders, she stood out as a beloved student.With her father by her side, the school’s student body announced the winner on the football field. Emma’s reaction was pure shock and tears as her name was called. She’s not only a cheerleader but also known for her infectious positivity and dancing in the school’s halls.

The school’s principal, Rusty Hall, celebrated her win and emphasized the importance of inclusivity and every student’s voice mattering. The heartwarming moment occurred during Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October. Emma aspires to open her own bakery and ice cream shop and plans to attend Western Carolina University after graduating next year.

Emma’s story is a touching reminder of the power of inclusivity and recognizing everyone’s unique contributions.
