Savannah Combs of Middleburg, Florida, gave birth to rare identical twin girls, both with Down syndrome—a 1 in 2 million occurrence. At just 23, she chose love and courage after doctors advised her to terminate the pregnancy. “Every appointment they were alive was a blessing,” Savannah said.
Her husband, Justin, was at boot camp while she carried the twins to 29 weeks. On May 12, 2021, Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman were born prematurely and spent time in the NICU before going home.
The girls are “mono-di” twins—each had their own sac but shared a placenta—making their case even more unique. “It’s very rare what they have, but they’ve been my little gems,” Savannah said.
She shares their milestones on TikTok to raise awareness. “They have feelings. They know how to do things. They will get there,” she stated proudly.
Despite facing online cruelty, Savannah defends her daughters fiercely. To one hateful comment, she replied, “Good thing they weren’t born to you and were born to me.” Her message is clear: “They may take longer, but they’ll do it.”
