NASA has detected a massive asteroid named **52768 (1998 OR2)**, expected to pass Earth on **June 2**. The asteroid measures **between 1.5 and 4 kilometers in diameter** and travels at **8.7 kilometers per second**.

Despite its size, NASA confirms it poses **no real threat**: “The asteroid will pass at a distance greater than the equivalent distance between the Moon and our planet.”

To compare, the **Chelyabinsk asteroid**, which injured **1,500 people** in 2013, was only **15 meters wide**, making 1998 OR2 significantly larger.

Even in a remote scenario of impact, scientists say it could “**almost completely destroy**” Earth. However, the current orbit suggests it will safely pass by.

In other space news, a **23-year-old student** recently discovered **17 new planets**, one of which is similar to Earth.
