A tragic accident on Saturday, the 7th, claimed the life of a 31-year-old motorcyclist on the SC-390 highway in Ipira, Santa Catarina. The crash occurred when the rider of a BMW S1000 RR “crossed into the opposite lane on a curve,” colliding head-on with a Renault Sandero driven by a 30-year-old woman.
Witnesses said they heard the bike’s “distinctive roar” moments before the collision. The impact reduced the motorcycle to “a twisted pile of metal,” with parts scattered across the road. The Sandero also sustained major damage.
Emergency crews quickly stabilized the motorcyclist and took him to the nearest hospital, but his injuries were too severe, and he died shortly after arrival.
A breathalyzer confirmed the driver was sober. She admitted her family removed the car from the scene before police arrived, a move that could complicate the investigation.
The BMW, worth up to R\$150,000, was destroyed beyond repair. Authorities have impounded the wreckage, and the community remains shaken, reminded of “the deadly risks of high-speed driving.”
