Beloved American judge Frank Caprio, known as “America’s Nicest Judge,” has passed away at 88 after battling pancreatic illness. His family shared that he “died peacefully” and will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Caprio rose to global fame on the TV show *Caught in Providence*, where his compassionate rulings in minor traffic cases touched millions. Clips of him showing empathy and leniency often went viral, highlighting his belief that “justice should be rooted in compassion.” His work even earned him a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2021.
Beginning his legal career in 1965, Caprio served as a judge in Providence, Rhode Island, from 1985 until his retirement in 2023. He became a symbol of fairness, focusing on the human stories behind each case rather than only the law.
In his final hours, Caprio recorded a message from his hospital bed, thanking supporters for their prayers and expressing gratitude. His humility and grace reflected the values he carried throughout life.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, five children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. His legacy continues through his family and his book *Compassion in the Court*, which captures his philosophy of kindness in justice.
