10 signs of bladder cancer to look out for

Bladder cancer is often called the “silent killer” because it develops with few early warning signs and is usually detected at advanced stages. Knowing the symptoms can save lives.

One of the main signs is blood in the urine (hematuria), which may appear red or pink, or be detected only through a test. While it can also result from infections or kidney stones, “it should never be ignored.”

Other symptoms include painful urination and the frequent need to urinate, even without drinking much fluid. Some people also experience a burning sensation when urinating.

As the disease progresses, warning signs may include back or pelvic pain, unexplained weight loss, fatigue, or swelling in the legs. These symptoms may indicate that the cancer has spread.

Doctors stress that early consultation is crucial. “Bladder cancer can progress without obvious signs,” so paying attention to small changes is essential. If you notice blood in your urine or persistent urinary issues, see a specialist promptly.
