Donald Trump’s hand has sparked concern after a photo showed it covered in foundation. “What health conditions could make Trump’s hands look like that?” one commenter asked, while another noted, “His hands were bruised, his skin pale, his ankles swollen, what is going on with my president?”
Bruises on his right hand first appeared in February when he met French President Emmanuel Macron, with more marks visible in March and April. The White House said the marks result from “shaking hands with various people” and that Trump “meets more Americans and shakes their hands on a daily basis than any other president in history.”
Trump, 79, also showed swollen ankles at the FIFA Club World Cup final, leading to a diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). His physician confirmed there was “no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease,” with tests “within the normal limits.”
CVI occurs when leg veins are damaged, causing blood to pool, pressure to rise, and small vessels to burst. Treatments include compression therapy, lifestyle changes, exercise, and leg elevation.
