On June 22, 2025, an EF-1 tornado ripped through Clark Mills, New York, leaving a 2.4-mile path of destruction with winds up to 105 mph. Homes were flattened, trees torn apart, and three lives were lost. Among them were six-year-old twin sisters, Emily and Kenni Bisson. Their mother, Kayleigh, was rescued by neighbors, but the girls tragically did not survive. Another resident, Shelly Johnson, also lost her life when her home was destroyed.
The Bisson family had only recently moved to the neighborhood, making the loss even harder. At Clinton Elementary, grief counselors supported classmates and teachers who described the twins as “bright, joyful children” who loved dance, sports, and friends.
Support for Kayleigh has poured in. A GoFundMe campaign raised over $308,000, while neighbors brought meals, shared memories, and helped clear debris.
Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency in 32 counties, sending crews to restore power, clear wreckage, and provide aid.
Despite heartbreak, Clark Mills is uniting through vigils, memorials, and rebuilding efforts—honoring Emily, Kenni, and Shelly while proving that compassion and resilience endure.
