An infected adult, confined mostly to Terminal 1 of one of the world’s busiest airports, may have exposed hundreds to measles, “the world’s most infectious disease.”
The person was at the airport on April 22 and 23 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. both days. They had received one dose of the MMR vaccine but still developed a rash on April 25. Tests later confirmed measles, and they have since been isolating at home.
Days later, another measles case appeared in the same Illinois county. This adult’s vaccination status is “unknown,” but after checking into a local hospital on April 28, staff quickly placed them in isolation.
Health officials warn anyone who may have been exposed to “contact their health provider and monitor for symptoms.” The incident adds to a growing series of measles scares recently linked to major U.S. airports and nearby communities.
