Ryan Seacrest breaks down in tears as he reveals heartbreaking news about his family. What’s going on with his family?

Ryan Seacrest grew emotional on On Air with Ryan Seacrest as he revealed that his father, Gary Seacrest, has been battling prostate cancer for years. The illness worsened after chemotherapy led to pneumonia, an ICU stay, and months of full-time care.

Seacrest recalled getting an urgent call about his dad’s condition while live on American Idol. He finished the episode before flying to Atlanta. He praised the nurses who helped when his father “couldn’t do the most basic things.” Gary has since recovered from pneumonia and is back home, though more treatment is ahead.

As Gary’s 81st birthday approaches, Ryan shared his father’s wish: “to get out of the chair and leave the house,” showing the long road of recovery.

The update drew support from fans and colleagues. Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos voiced encouragement on Live with Kelly and Mark, while entertainment outlets highlighted Seacrest’s message about cancer’s harsh toll and the resilience of families.

In closing, Seacrest reflected on the importance of simple acts—prayer, patience, and presence. “Small mercies—time at a beach, a walk outside, a steady hand—become victories worth celebrating.”
