Skin cancer is a rising health concern, with “one in five people in America” developing it before age 70 and about 9,500 new cases daily in the U.S. Melanoma is among the deadliest, but other forms, like basal cell carcinoma, are also serious.
Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay revealed on Instagram that he had surgery to remove a basal cell carcinoma from his jaw. He shared photos showing a bandage and stitches, writing: “Grateful and so appreciative for the incredible team at The Skin Associates and their fast reactive work on removing this Basal Cell Carcinoma thank you!” He added with humor, “Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend. I promise you it’s not a face lift! I’d need a refund.”
Cancer Research UK praised him, commenting: “Glad to hear you’re doing well, Gordon, and thanks for raising awareness of how important it is to stay safe in the sun. Seek shade, cover up, and apply sunscreen regularly and generously.”
Basal cell carcinoma often looks like a “slightly transparent bump” and typically appears on sun-exposed areas like the head or neck.
We wish Ramsay a speedy recovery and hope his message inspires others to protect their skin.
