Conservative activist Charlie Kirk has died at 31 after a shooting during an event at Utah Valley University, police confirmed. The incident occurred around 12:20 p.m. local time.
US President Donald Trump released a statement, calling him “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk,” adding, “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
Kirk is survived by his wife and two young children. He was widely recognized for founding and leading Turning Point USA, a conservative student group, and for his strong support of President Trump.
Tributes quickly poured in online. Vice-President JD Vance wrote: “Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.”
More details are expected to follow.
