A man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, President Donald Trump confirmed. He said authorities have a “high degree of certainty” the suspect is responsible, though the identity has not yet been released.
Trump revealed the suspect was turned in by someone “very close” to him. Investigators are now trying to determine if he acted alone or was part of a larger plan. The case remains open, with authorities examining possible links.
Earlier, two people were arrested shortly after the shooting but were released when cleared of involvement. Their release added to speculation and uncertainty around the case.
Graphic footage of the attack has been widely shared online. The video shows a loud bang, Kirk being struck in the neck, and collapsing as blood poured from the wound. The shocking clip spread quickly on X, formerly Twitter.
Kirk was on stage at the time, taking questions about gun violence when the shot was fired. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he later died from his injuries. Trump honored Kirk as “great” and “legendary,” offering condolences to his wife Erika and family.
