Authorities in Utah have revealed new details about the motives behind Charlie Kirk’s assassination. The suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, fatally shot the conservative commentator on September 10 during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University.
Governor Spencer Cox said Robinson had openly criticized Kirk, once telling his family that the commentator was “full of hate and spreading hate.” Relatives noticed his growing radicalization in recent years.
Investigators uncovered disturbing evidence at the scene and in a wooded hiding spot where Robinson stashed a bolt-action rifle. Bullet casings were etched with mocking and political messages, including “notices bulges OWO what’s this?” and “if you read this you are gay lmao.” Others carried more direct themes, such as “hey fascist! catch!” and lyrics from the anti-fascist anthem “bella ciao.”
Robinson’s Discord messages revealed careful planning. He wrote about retrieving the rifle from a drop site, concealing it in a towel, and changing clothes to evade capture. Authorities confirmed these details with evidence collected during the investigation.
Officials believe Robinson acted alone and was motivated by ideological opposition to Kirk. He is in custody facing multiple charges, including aggravated murder.
