Authorities have arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with the assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk, 31, who was fatally shot during a rally at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025.
Police sources said Tyler confessed to his father, Matt Robinson, a veteran of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and member of the U.S. Marshals Service. Matt then secured his son and contacted law enforcement.
President Donald Trump commented, “We have the person that we think is the person we’re looking for, but they drove into the police headquarters, and he’s there now.” Trump also said he hoped the suspect would face the death penalty if convicted.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed that Tyler matched surveillance images and noted, “Investigators interviewed a family member of Robinson who stated that Robinson had become more political in recent years.” A relative also recalled Tyler mentioning at dinner that Kirk would visit Utah Valley University.
FBI Director Kash Patel praised law enforcement, saying, “In 33 hours, we have made historic progress for Charlie,” calling the arrest “a testament to good law enforcement being great.”
The investigation continues as officials search for a motive.
