Tyler Robinson, 22, has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on September 10. The FBI confirmed his detention, stating he is the main suspect. Utah Governor Spencer Cox said Robinson sent “chilling messages” on Discord about gathering a rifle, wrapping it in a towel, and changing outfits before the attack. Officials received a tip from a family member, which helped lead to his arrest.
Robinson’s grandmother, Debbie, insists the FBI “have the wrong man,” describing him as “the shyest person” who “has never, ever spoke politics” and “has never gotten in trouble in his life.” She doubted he could use the bolt-action rifle, saying, “There’s just no way he could have been that good of a shot.”
Despite Debbie’s claims, Robinson reportedly became “more political” in recent years and had expressed opposition to Kirk’s views to family members. He was apprehended at his home in southern Utah, and authorities have not confirmed a motive. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
Kirk’s death shocked the nation, with former President Donald Trump writing: “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead…He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me.”
A magazine that had joked about “paying witches to curse Kirk” issued a statement condemning the shooting.
