Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative commentator, was fatally shot on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University. He was hit “in the neck mid-speech” during the first stop of his ‘American Comeback Tour’.
The suspected shooter, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson from Utah, was arrested after a nationwide manhunt. Officials say he was turned in by his Republican father, though relatives claim the FBI “have the wrong man.”
Robinson now faces seven charges: aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, and committing a violent crime in front of children. Prosecutors confirmed they will seek the death penalty. “I do not take this decision lightly,” Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray said.
Evidence includes DNA on a screwdriver and towel found near the rifle, along with bullet casings marked “hey fascist” and “catch.” A destroyed note reportedly read: “I have the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.”
Two hours before his arrest, Robinson allegedly told friends on Discord: “It was me at UVU yesterday. I’m sorry for all of this. I’m surrendering through a sheriff friend in a few moments.”
