FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said Monday that investigators are probing whether Charlie Kirk’s accused assassin acted alone or had help. While one suspect is in custody, Bongino explained the bureau is also “looking into potential accomplices” and added, “There’s not going to be a stone left unturned.”
He noted the investigation includes whether anyone aided financially or failed to report what they knew. Video evidence showing the gunman leaping from a rooftop after the fatal shot provided key forensic clues. “This is where we got a significant portion of the forensic evidence, which was the key piece of information that cracked this thing open,” Bongino said.
The suspect had previously voiced violent intentions. “You see this a lot in targeted violence cases, assassinations, school shootings—where the individual expresses in advance his desire to do these things,” Bongino explained.
Family and coworkers reported the man became more political and withdrawn before the September 10 assassination of the 31-year-old activist. Bongino added, “It appears from the data we’ve accumulated that this ideology had infected him and taken over. He was intent on making Charlie his target.”
He confirmed the FBI views the killing as “an ideologically motivated attack.”
