Donald Trump has arrived at Windsor Castle, becoming “the first political leader to be invited by the British monarchy for two state visits.” He and Melania were welcomed by King Charles III, Queen Camilla, and the Prince and Princess of Wales after landing in Marine One.
The couple joined a carriage procession through Windsor estate, lined with the British military. Camilla’s attendance had been uncertain due to illness, but palace officials confirmed she was present.
While the visit was historic, much attention focused on Melania Trump’s fashion choice. Wearing a grey two-piece suit and wide-brimmed hat, social media quickly lit up with reactions. One user wrote, “Melania has deployed the big hat,” while another joked, “I’m sure that I saw Melania’s hat on sale yesterday in the John Lewis lighting department.” Others compared her style to her husband’s inauguration look, with one quipping she “looks like gestapo again.”
During the visit, the Trumps will inspect the guard of honour, attend a state lunch, view US-related artifacts, and take part in ceremonies including a military flypast and banquet. Lord Kim Darroch said the talks will address global politics, warning that discussions on Ukraine and tariffs with China and India “are very, very tricky.”
