Video footage shows the moment Tyler Robinson, 22, was told Utah prosecutors will seek the death penalty for the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Kirk, 31, was fatally shot during a September 10 event at Utah Valley University. President Trump mourned: “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead… He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me.” Kirk’s funeral is scheduled for Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Arizona.
Robinson was arrested 33 hours after the attack, following CCTV showing a man on a campus rooftop. Prosecutors say Robinson expressed hatred for Kirk, with one note reading: “I have the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.” Another alleged message said: “I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out.”

The FBI also revealed Discord messages in which Robinson admitted: “It was me at UVU yesterday. I’m sorry for all of this.” He later wrote he was surrendering through a sheriff friend.
Robinson faces charges of aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, and firearm offenses. Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray confirmed the intent to pursue capital punishment, beginning what is expected to be a lengthy legal battle.
