A man has died after becoming unresponsive while riding the Stardust Racers roller coaster at Universal’s new Epic Universe theme park in Florida. The incident happened on 17 September, and the guest, who has not been named, was taken to hospital after the ride stopped but later pronounced dead.
Universal confirmed the tragedy, saying, “We are devastated by this event and extend our sincerest sympathies to the guest’s loved ones.” The park added, “We are fully committed to cooperating with this ongoing investigation.”
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office also released a statement: “Universal is cooperating with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office following a tragic event involving a guest at Epic Universe on Wednesday night.”
The Stardust Racers, which opened in May 2025, is a high-speed dual-track coaster reaching 62 mph and 133 feet in height. It has been closed while investigations continue.
Though rare, similar tragedies have occurred at Universal in the past, including a 2003 fatal heart attack on The Incredible Hulk Coaster and a 2004 accident involving a fall at Revenge of the Mummy. Authorities are expected to release more details about the victim soon.
