Jimmy Kimmel returned to Jimmy Kimmel Live! after a weeklong suspension over remarks about the man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk. While he spoke about the controversy, he avoided a direct apology.
In his monologue, Kimmel praised Erika Kirk, Charlie’s widow, for forgiving her husband’s alleged killer. He called it “a selfless act of grace” and said, “That is an example we should follow.”
The suspension followed his September 15 monologue, where he claimed conservative commentators were “desperately” trying to distance the alleged shooter from the MAGA movement. The comments sparked backlash from media affiliates and political figures.
Sinclair Broadcast Group and Nexstar Media Group, which cover about 25% of ABC affiliates, announced they would no longer air the show. FCC Chair Brendan Carr also issued a warning that added pressure on the network.
Jimmy Kimmel: "Erika Kirk forgave the man who shot her husband…That is an example we should follow. If you believe in the teachings of Jesus, as I do, there it was. A selfless act of grace, forgiveness from a grieving widow. It touched me deeply."pic.twitter.com/kmRrDIKGpz

Kimmel later clarified he wasn’t mocking the tragedy or blaming politics, saying: “It was a sick person who believed violence was a solution — and it isn’t ever.” He thanked ABC for supporting him, admitted he was “not happy” about the suspension, and promised to continue using his platform for causes he believes in.
