A newborn baby amazed doctors and social media after being photographed holding the IUD contraceptive that was meant to prevent his mother’s pregnancy. Baby Matheus was born alongside the copper device, which the doctor jokingly placed in his tiny hand.
A clip of him holding it was captioned: “Holding my victory trophy: the IUD couldn’t handle me!” The moment quickly went viral.
His mother, Queidy Araujo de Oliveira, had been using the IUD for two years. Despite its very low failure rate of just 0.6 percent, she unexpectedly found out she was pregnant during a routine ultrasound. “When we least expected it… I found out I was pregnant. The reaction was desperate,” she admitted.
Her husband, who had been planning a vasectomy, reacted with humor online, saying the “factory is now closed.”
Though surprised, the couple later embraced the irony and found joy in the extraordinary way their baby entered the world.
