Animal rescuers from the Heart of the Forest center were puzzled after finding a tiny black-furred creature that looked like “a kitten, squirrel, ferret, even a mini teddy bear.”
To everyone’s surprise, it turned out to be “a domestic rabbit, just three to four days old.” The baby had small wounds and was rescued not by a person but by a dog who “gently carried her to safety.”
This discovery shocked rescuers since domestic rabbits “are rarely found alone in the wild,” especially in places with no breeders nearby. Unlike wild rabbits, domestic ones “are born blind and hairless.”
The team later shared photos comparing wild and domestic baby rabbits to teach people how to tell them apart.
No one knows how the little bunny ended up in the forest, but she’s now safe and recovering—thanks to a caring dog and the rescue team’s quick response.
