Newborn baby killed ‘after being thrown from fourth-floor window by five-year-old sister’

In Vasilyevo village, Russia, a 21-day-old baby girl died after reportedly being thrown from a fourth-floor window by her five-year-old sister. The children were home alone while the mother had stepped out and the father was at work. Passersby heard a child crying before finding the newborn on the ground. Emergency responders could not save her.

The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case to determine the circumstances. Officials are examining whether neglect played a role and what might have motivated the older child. Local media suggest the five-year-old “may have acted impulsively, possibly out of confusion or jealousy.” Authorities are also reviewing the mother’s choice to leave the children unsupervised.

District head Mikhail Afanasyev said, “This tragedy reminds us how vital it is never to leave young children alone, even for a short time. Our hearts go out to the family.” Social services and child-protection advocates stress that young children cannot understand risk, and even brief unsupervised moments can be fatal.

The incident has stirred grief across Russia, highlighting the need for parental vigilance, support, and community care. Experts warn that tragedies like this are often preventable with proper awareness and assistance.

This heartbreaking case is a reminder of human fragility and the importance of compassion and protection for all children.
