Not all children experience the warmth of a loving family. Some end up in shelters, waiting for the perfect family. Former teacher and single mom Melissa Servetz, dedicated to social services, opened her home to 56 foster children over the years, driven by a desire to provide love and care.
Unexpected Blessing: With plans to foster one more child before retiring, Melissa’s life took an unexpected turn. Reflecting on her maternal instincts, she realized her dream of becoming a mother. Fate intervened when a former student’s parent informed her about children needing temporary care.
A Growing Family: Initially fostering two girls, Jade and Destiny, Melissa couldn’t resist when the girls’ mother gave birth to two boys, Matthew and Emerson. Unwilling to separate the siblings, Melissa decided to adopt all four, providing them with a permanent and loving home.
Overcoming Trauma: Understanding the trauma her children faced, especially Jade and Destiny, who endured abuse, Melissa ensured they received counseling. She aims to help them process their past while learning how to support them effectively.
Bright Future Ahead: Melissa envisions a bright future for her children, describing them as a mix of fun, active, and loving individuals. Her commitment reflects in her words: “I want them to remember that I picked them… and I have, in my opinion, the best children in the world.”
