Sally Field didn’t hold back when asked about her worst on-screen kiss during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. When reminded that her best kiss was with James Garner in Murphy’s Romance, Field shocked everyone by naming her late ex, Burt Reynolds, as the worst.
“This is gonna be a shocker, hold on folks, Burt Reynolds,” she said of her Smokey and the Bandit co-star. The pair had a five-year on-and-off relationship after filming the 1977 hit.
Field jokingly added, “It was just not something he did very well. I could go into detail, but you don’t want to hear it.” When host Andy Cohen asked for more, she revealed, “Not totally involved, just a lot of drooling was involved.”
This isn’t the first time Field has spoken about Reynolds. In her 2018 memoir In Pieces, she described their relationship as unhealthy. “He was not someone I could be around. He was just not good for me in any way,” she said, adding that Reynolds later “invented” a version of their relationship that wasn’t real.
Field concluded, “He just wanted to have the thing he didn’t have. I just didn’t want to deal with that.”
