CTV journalist and anchor Beverly Thomson has died at age 61 after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by her family, CTV News reported.
Thomson’s career spanned more than 30 years, marked by her time at CTV News Toronto, the morning show Canada AM, and as a CTV News Channel anchor. Before joining CTV, she worked at Global News from 1997 to 2003.
She became known for her insightful interviews with major figures, including Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Donald Trump, and Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield. Her coverage of major events, such as the 2016 U.S. presidential election, solidified her as “one of Canada’s most respected news personalities,” said Lis Travers, former RTDNA Canada president.
In October 2023, Thomson received the RTDNA Canada Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing her contributions to journalism.
Bell Media’s vice-president of news, Richard Gray, paid tribute, calling Thomson a “trusted voice and a valued teammate to all of us at CTV News.”
