Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy said he may close the company’s Manhattan office after Zohran Mamdani was elected as New York City’s new mayor. During a livestream, Portnoy called Mamdani a “Communist” who will “wreck the business climate” and added, “I hate the guy.”
Portnoy accused the 34-year-old mayor of being a “thirty-something-year-old Communist running New York City who’s never had a job in his life, hates America.”
He revealed he’s already told his finance team to look for new office space in Hoboken or Jersey City. Despite the disruption this could cause for employees, he admitted he has “given it a lot of thought” and feels he must act.
Mamdani’s victory marks a leftward shift for the city, with promises of rent freezes and expanded public housing.
Portnoy, whose company is worth about $600 million, said the move would be “a principled stand” against the new administration.
