Millionaire builds 99 homes to reduce homelessness in his town

Canadian millionaire Marcel LeBrun is gaining attention for his commendable initiative against homelessness in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Having sold his company for a substantial sum, LeBrun invested $4 million to construct 99 “tiny homes” in the ’12 Neighbours’ gated community. In 2022, Fredericton reported 1,800 homeless individuals, prompting LeBrun’s significant financial commitment.

These compact residences offer a kitchen, bed space, bathroom, front decking, and solar panels. The emphasis is on providing a roof and ensuring safety. LeBrun’s motivation, as he shared with CBC, reflects a profound commitment to combating homelessness: “It’s a basic need. You can’t get ahead in life if you don’t have a safe place to sleep.” Government support kicked in with an additional $12 million in grants after the completion of 70 tiny homes, amplifying the positive impact of LeBrun’s philanthropy on the community’s most vulnerable members.
