The morning of March 20, 2025 turned chaotic at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital in Michigan after reports of gunfire came from the parking garage. The busy medical center quickly went into crisis mode as staff and patients waited for updates. Police were alerted just before 9 a.m. after several 911 callers reported an “active shooter situation.” Officers arrived fast, blocked entrances, and ordered a full lockdown. Nearby schools also locked down, and people inside the hospital sheltered in secure rooms while police searched the campus.

Authorities soon learned the shooting wasn’t random but a conflict between two hospital employees. According to investigators, 21-year-old Robert Paljusevic confronted a 25-year-old coworker and shot him twice in the arm before escaping. The victim survived after immediate treatment. Police later said the motive came from a personal dispute, noting that Paljusevic was upset about not being invited to the victim’s father’s funeral. He was charged with “assault with intent to murder” and multiple weapons felonies. After a two-hour search, officers located him at a home in Macomb Township and arrested him without resistance.

Complicating the morning, an unrelated electrical fire broke out close to the hospital, causing evacuations and temporary power reduction in parts of the area. No injuries were reported from the fire, but the combined emergencies increased public fear.

The shooting left the community shaken and raised concerns about workplace conflicts, staff well-being, and security procedures. Hospital officials promised to review safety protocols and offer counseling for employees affected by the incident.
