Drying laundry directly in the washing machine: a trick that replaces the dryer

We have all faced that frustrating moment when freshly washed laundry simply refuses to dry. Outside, rain keeps falling. Indoors, the radiators are already running. The apartment feels too small to hang clothes properly without turning the living room into a maze of drying racks. In these moments, laundry day becomes a true test of patience. Yet few people realize that a simple trick, performed directly inside the washing machine, can dramatically reduce drying time and transform your entire routine.

When winter arrives or the weather becomes unpredictable, drying laundry becomes a daily challenge. Without a balcony or a dedicated laundry room, clothes often stay damp for hours, sometimes even days. The air inside becomes heavy with moisture, and that unpleasant musty smell appears. Many people dream of owning a dryer, but the reality is that dryers require space, increase electricity bills, and are not always compatible with small homes or energy saving lifestyles. Fortunately, your washing machine already holds the solution.

The secret is known as the towel trick. It sounds almost too simple to be effective, yet the results are impressive. Before starting the final spin cycle, place a completely dry towel directly into the drum with your wet laundry. Then select a fast spin cycle, ideally around one thousand rotations per minute. As the drum spins, the towel acts like a powerful sponge, absorbing a large portion of the moisture that remains in your clothes after the wash cycle.

When you open the door of the washing machine, you will immediately notice the difference. Your laundry feels significantly less damp. This means that once you hang the clothes, they dry much faster. In many cases, drying time can be cut nearly in half. Shirts that usually take all night to dry may be ready within a few hours. Jeans no longer feel cold and heavy by morning. Towels no longer smell stale. It is a small change with an enormous impact on daily comfort.

This method offers many advantages. First, it requires no special equipment. You do not need to buy anything. A simple clean towel is enough. Second, it saves valuable space. Without the need for a bulky dryer, your home remains uncluttered and breathable. Third, it helps maintain healthier indoor air. Reducing drying time limits humidity, which helps prevent mold growth and unpleasant odors.

There are also important environmental benefits. Using this technique avoids additional energy consumption that a dryer would require. You rely only on your existing washing machine, making this approach both eco friendly and budget conscious. Over time, the savings on electricity and appliance maintenance can be significant.

Perhaps the greatest benefit is how much easier it makes everyday life. When your child suddenly needs pajamas before bedtime or your favorite sweater must be ready for the next morning, waiting endlessly for laundry to dry is exhausting. This trick restores a sense of control. Laundry becomes predictable, manageable, and far less stressful.

What makes the towel trick so remarkable is its simplicity. There is no complicated setup, no change in habits, and no learning curve. You simply add one dry towel and let physics do the work. The towel absorbs moisture that would otherwise stay trapped in the fabric, and the high speed spin removes it from both the clothes and the towel.

Sometimes the most powerful solutions are the quietest ones. With a single small gesture and a household item you already own, your entire laundry routine becomes faster, easier, and more enjoyable.
