Losing a young child is an agonizing experience, leaving a family shattered and the world mourning the innocence cut short. In 2017, tragedy struck 9-year-old Keira Ball’s family in a devastating car accident. Keira faced a dire situation, her life hanging by a thread while her mother and brother fought for survival.
Facing the unimaginable, Keira’s father, Joe Ball, encountered a daunting decision. Approached by the organ donation team, he reflected, “‘If Keira was given the option, I’m sure she would have said yes.'” Despite the heartbreak, Keira’s parents chose to donate her organs, aiming to bring some good out of the tragedy.
Keira’s organs, including her heart, kidneys, liver, and pancreas, became a lifeline for others. Joe Ball expressed the bittersweet reality, “It’s tragic that we’ve lost Kiera. But she’s gone on and saved four other people. It’s absolutely amazing.” Among the recipients was 10-year-old Max Johnson.
Keira’s parents, honoring her kind spirit, found solace in the knowledge that their daughter’s generosity would live on in others. As her mother, Loanna, remarked, “It’s heart wrenching that we’ve lost Keira, but the fact that she’s gone on and saved four other people is absolutely amazing.”
